The invention provides insecticidal and acaricidal compounds of formula (I) :wherein X is selected from hydrogen, halo, hydroxy, alkoxy and acyloxy, Z represents a fluoroalkyl group of one or two carbon atoms, Y represents a substituted aryl group where each substituent is selected from halo, alkyl of up to six carbon atoms, aryl, aralkyl of up to four carbon atoms in the alkyl moiety, aryloxy and arylamino, and either(i) R represents hydrogen, and W, W² and W³ are independently selected from halo, alkyl of up to six carbon atoms, alkoxy of up to six carbon atoms, alkoxyalkyl of up to a total of six carbon atoms, haloalkyl of up to six carbon atoms, and haloalkoxy of up to six carbon atoms, or(ii) R is selected from methyl, trifluoromethyl, cyano and ethynyl, and W', W² and W³ are independently selected from hydrogen, halo, alkyl of up to six carbon atoms, alkoxy of up to six carbon atoms, alkoxyalkyl of up to a total of six carbon atoms, haloalkyl of up to six carbon atoms, and haloalkoxy of up to six carbon atoms.;The invention also provides processes and intermediates for the preparation of the compounds of formula (I), compositions comprising them and methods of combating and controlling insect and acarine pests therewith.
