Objects produced by the process according to the invention are polymer electrodes in which the polymer has a particularly large specific surface area. The polymer electrodes are suitable for use in secondary elements of high energy density. The starting polymer or polycondensation resin is thermally structured, the thermal structuring according to the invention taking place in two stages and bromination being carried out between the two stages. As a result of the chemical reactions produced on the brominated intermediate product during the second temperature treatment with elimination of bromine-containing compounds, a polymer having a high specific surface area is formed, whereby a higher capacitance and current carrying capacity of the electrodes produced therefrom is achieved for the same molecular mass.
