The invention relates to an improved spider assembly for a nuclear reactor. The spider assembly has a hub (32) from which extend radial vanes (34) with fingers (36) adapted to be connected to control rods. Each vane (34) together with the fingers (36) thereon is of a monolithic construction forming a rigid subunit devoid of joints. The hub (32) is tubular, and each vane (34) has at its inner end an integral extension (50) which is firmly seated in an associated one of several slots (48) formed in the tubular hub and communicating with its interior space, the vane in addition being joined, such as brazed, to the hub.
