At the rear of a practice shell (10) with a pointed nose (11) is a cavity (14) holding a mushroom shaped delay deivce (16) which is extendes when the speed of the shell begins to fall, producing a braking and destabilising effect. This device is connected by a line (18) with release devices so that the line is extended and the device is released from the cavity and drawn behind the shell. In many alternative designs, destabilising elements permanently attached to the rear are shaped as tapered bodies, e.g. conical, concave, convex and concave/convex. Alternative destabilising elements are non symmetrical. USE/ADVANTAGE - Short range military practice shell. The destabilising point is more accurately determined than that of previous designs.
