In the method for cooling beer, especially during the tapping of draught beer, dry ice, which is accommodated in a suitable container outside the beer barrel, is constantly evaporated. The cooled CO2 gas produced as a result flows through a pipe which is connected to the container and is inserted through a bunghole in the beer barrel. The CO2 gas flows, once heat has been received, out of the beer in the region of the bunghole and out of the beer barrel. The beer cooling device for implementing this method has a sealable dry ice container which is situated outside the beer barrel and a pipe which can be inserted into a bunghole and is connected to the container so as to communicate with the latter.
