Method of straightening rotationally symmetrical workpieces consists of subjecting a length of the workpiece between two counter bearings (1) to a bending force (3). Starting from one end is individual sections, the radial distortion (M) at the mid-point between the berings (1) is measured and a bending force equal to M (l+k) is used with K being dependent on the distance between the bearings (1), the workpiece material its condition and temperature as well as its cross-section. After releasing this force, the residual distortion M2 is corrected by a force equal to M2 (l+k) where k' is given by kM1+M2, M1. Forces are repeatedly applied until the distortion is reduced to a tolerable amount. The workpiece is then moved so that the next section can be straightened. USE/ADVANTAGE - Bar straightening. Is inexpensive with regards to the apparatus used.
