Fe ores or Fe ore aggreates are treated with reagents which prevent or lower grain decomposition on reduction at 400-600 deg.C in a blast furnace. The reagents are halogen-containing solutions or halogen- containing solids and are added to the ores or agglomerates. The reagents can be used as solutions, sea water or sea water-like liquids containing 0.1-50 g/l halogen. The aggregates or ores can be sprayed with or immersed in a bath containing the halogen compound in solution. The halogen compound treated ores or aggregates are produced before washing out with water.
