The subject-matter of the application is a method for the production of a composite screen plate and such a composite screen plate itself. It consists of a carrier plate made of steel, to the upper side of which is applied an anti-wear layer. The anti-wear layer is composed of a hard steel alloy with embedded hard materials. The composite screen plate has screen openings which are cut right through the carrier plate and the anti-wear layer. The intention is to provide a composite screen plate of this kind, the applied anti-wear layer of which has a uniform hardness in the direction of its thickness and has a smooth surface which poses a low frictional resistance to the abrasive screened material, without impairment to the reliability of the join between the anti-wear layer and the carrier plate. For this purpose, the anti-wear layer of the composite screen plate is composed of a sintered steel alloy which is sintered onto the carrier plate. The running of the sintered material gives a continuous and substantially flat surface and the join with the carrier plate is effected by diffusion at the boundary surface of the two materials.
