摘要

NEW MATERIAL:N-(2-Methacryloyloxyethyl)-tetrafluorophthalimide expressed by formula I and N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-tetrafluorophthalimide expressed by formula II. USE:A monomer compound capable of improving water resistance without deteriorating mechanical strength of polymethyl methacrylate and intermediate therefor. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula III is reacted with ethanolamine to provide a compound expressed by formula II, which is then reacted with methacrylic acid in the presence of an acidic catalyst to afford the compound expressed by formula I. Since a polymer obtained from the afore- mentioned compound as a monomer component is capable of exhibiting excellent water resistance (low water absorptivity) and mechanical strength is nearly comparable to that of polymethyl methacrylate, the polymer is preferably used as optical materials, coatings, textile treating agents, mold releasing agents, resin modifiers, optical fiber protective agents, permoselective membranes, etc.
