PURPOSE:To separate an ethyleneamine from calcium chloride, by extracting an aqueous solution containing the ethyleneamine and the calcium chloride with an aliphatic cyclic ketone in the presence of ammonia, and extracting the ethyleneamine selectively in an organic phase. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution containing ethyleneamine and calcium chloride is extracted with an aliphatic cyclic ketone, preferably cyclopentanone or cyclohexanone, or a mixed solvent thereof with an alcohol type organic solvent in the presence of ammonia in a molar amount of 2.0 times or more, preferably 6.0 times or more, of that of the calcium chloride, to extract the ethyleneamine selectively in an organic phase. The above-mentioned organic phase is then extracted with an acid reversely to the aqueous phase and give a highly concentrated aqueous solution of the resultant ethyleneamine salt. An aqueous solution, obtained by adding calcium hydroxide to a reaction solution formed by reacting ethane dichloride with an aqueous solution of ammonia, and containing the ethyleneamine and, calcium chloride and ammonia is subjected to the method, and the ethylenamine can be recovered by easy operations with the slight energy consumption.
