The invention concerns a procedure and apparatus for attaching goods to a base with an elastic strap. For this purpose, various tightening arrangements and locking devices are used to obtain and maintain the tension. According to the invention the fastening is achieved using only one fastening strap. One end of the fastening strap 3, which is carried round the goods 1, is fixed at point 4 on the base 2, while the other end is taken through what will become the fixing point 5, without being fastened to it. By means of the strap-tensioning device 10, fastening strap 3 is tightened, and the free end of the tightening apparatus's tension strap 14 is fastened on the base, near the fastening strap's fixing point 5, whereby tension is brought about in that part 4-11, 12 of the fastening strap situated between the strap's fixed end and the press part. In this position, the free end of the fastening strap is tightened manually and tied at point 5.
