Medicines containing a 3,4-diphenylpiperidine derivative of the formula Ia IMAGE in which X, Y and n have the meanings given, or a physiologically tolerable salt of these compounds and their use as antidepressant are described. 3,4-Diphenylpiperidine derivatives of the formula I IMAGE in which X, Y and n have the meanings given, and their physiologically tolerable salts and processes for their preparation are additionally described.
