Soluble and/or fusible polyamidepolyamide (PA-PA1-), polyamidepolyamideimide(PA-PAI-) or polyamidepolyimide (PA-PI-) block copolymers (Formula I) where n is an integer from 1 to 200, x is an integer from 1 to 20, R1 is a divalent aromatic radical, R is the radical (Formula II), and a) in the case of the PA-PA1 block copolymers X is the radical -NH-, Y is the radical -NH-CO-, where N always has bonding to R and B is a radical (Formula III), and where y is an integer from 1 to 20, R2 is a divalent aromatic radical and R3 is a divalent aromatic radical other than R, b) in the case of the PA-PAI block copolymers either: X is the radical =N-, Y is the radical -NH- and B is the radical (Formula IV), where Ar is a trivalent aromatic radical, or: X and Y are the radical =N- and B is the radical (Formula V), where y is an integer from 0 to 20 and R3 is R or a divalent aromatic radical, and Ar is as defined above, c) in the case of the PA-PI block copolymers X and Y is =N- and B is the radical (Formula VI), where y is an integer from 0 to 20 and R3 is R or a divalent aromatic radical, and Ar is a tetravalent aromatic radical, and a process for their preparation.
