The PVC films produced by the customary process by means of an embossing roller have a surface structure on which grooved-roller transitions and smears are visible, which additionally do not clean very well and have only a low scratch resistance. Therefore, a process using an embossing roller is proposed, the surface structure of the embossing roller being produced by small, hard shaped objects being fired at the surface of the embossing roller. Random, chaotic impact by the shaped objects cause undirected indentations to be produced on the surface, and films produced by such an embossing roller are correspondingly provided with hemispherical depressions with round smooth transitions, avoiding disturbing striped patterns and allowing the textured surface of the films to be cleaned easily.
