Flame treatment process for surface uses a burner with torch head to produce a high energy flame, and has a cooling medium applied in front of and behind the heated region in the direction of movement of the torch head. The coolant comprises a cryogenic medium at a very low temp., applied in liq., or gaseous form, e.g. N2, Ar or CO2. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is suited to the treatment of e.g. reinforced concrete surfaces with limited concrete cover or small workpieces such as tiles or slabs. The cooling technique limits the thermal loading of the treated surface without adversely affecting the intended results of the flame treatment.
