At each of its ends, a propellor shaft has a connection piece, between which there extend an outer tubular shaft and an inner cylindrical shaft. The shafts, which are arranged to allow axial and rotary motion relative to one another, are connected at opposite ends to one connection piece in each case and enclose between them a long annular shearing gap which contains a dilatant liquid for automatically activatable or deactivatable torque transmission.
