A sound absorbent wall e.g. for residential areas near motorways or railway lines is assembled of- prefabricated elements, each element consisting of a concrete wall with a protruding rim. Parallel concrete grate bars between two sides of the rim have an initially divergent, followed by a convergent cross-section. The space between them and the concrete base plate and between themselves is filled with a sound absorbent material. ADVANTAGE - When exposed to a noise spectrum of 70 dB, the reflected sound level is 60.8 dB, i.e. the sound absorption factor is 9.2 dB, compared with 8 dB required by the statutory regulations. This is easy to erect and is well protected against weathering effects.
