Method of manufacturing articles made of expanded polyethylene, such as buoys, characterised in that an agglomerate of polyethylene beads is injected under very high pressure into a mould having a mould cavity and ram (force plug) of desired shape, slightly open, until the mould is filled, in that steam, optionally with a certain quantity of nitrogen, is sent in, in order to expand this agglomerate, in that, after expanding the said agglomerate, the mould is completely closed, in that a new final compression is applied and in that, after this new compression, the moulded article is released and stoved (heated in an oven) for a period at defined temperatures. The invention applies in general to safety equipment for swimming pools and to shipping (navigation).
