PURPOSE:To clean the exhaust gas into a harmless gas by a method wherein as Oya stone has an absorbability and the ambient temperature in a disused quarry mine of Oya stone is always below 0-5 deg.C, the disused mine is used as a flue so that hazardous substances such as soots, sulfur dioxide gas, etc., which are produced due to incineration of refuse, are absorbed and removed by the inner wall of the disused mine and discharged above the ground after cooled. CONSTITUTION:An underground refuse treatment plant 8 is built adjacent to a disused quarry mine 1, and includes a refuse conveying vertical shaft 9 leading to a transportation factory 10 on the ground, an incineration ash conveying vertical shaft 11, an incineration furnace 12, a first flue 13, a steam generator 14 connected to the first flue 13, and a turbine power generator 15 connected to the steam generator 14. By this constitution, the smoke generated by incineration of industrial waste which is transported from the ground to the plant 8 is led to the end of the disused mine 1 together with steam via the first flue 13, and hazardous substances and odor contained in the smoke are absorbed and deodored by inner walls of the disused mine (ceilings, side walls and side walls of remaining columns) and the smoke is discharged above the ground through a blow pipes 5a. Thereby, the exhaust gas rich with glucides and nitrate nutrients is infiltrated into the earth 7 to obtain a fertilizing effect. On the other hand, ash conveyed to the ground is used as a fertilizer.
