PURPOSE:To improve positional resolution and energy resolution by providing a cathode pattern to permit formation of a uniform electric field distribution between an anode core and each cathode electrode. CONSTITUTION:In a gas chamber 1 formed in a bent shape, a bent anode core 5 is placed at a position forming a concentric circle with the chamber 1, while on a position forming a concentric circle with the anode core 5, a cathode pattern whose cross section is almost a circle to surround the anode core 5 is provided. As a result, a uniform electric field distribution is formed between the anode core 5 and each cathode electrode 11, an avalanche is generated on the anode core 5 by incident X-rays, and generated positive ions are moved to the cathode electrode so that uniform inductive electric charge is induced over an entire face of the cathode electrode 11. Thus positional resolution is improved as well as energy resolution of each electrode can be improved and uniformed.
