PURPOSE:To provide a new nonmotile microorganism, belonging to Xanthomonas.maltophilia, having the ability to produce acids from rhamnose and useful for preventing or controlling anthracnose of strawberries. CONSTITUTION:Nonmotile Xanthomonas.maltophilia No.34 strain (FERM P-10363), capable of varying Xanthomonas.maltophilia and having the ability to produce acids from rhamnose is produced. Strawberry seedlings can be then brought into contact with the resultant microorganism, at least one of propionic acid, acetic acid and salts thereof or pyrolignous acid to prevent or control anthracnose of strawberries. Monosaccharides and/or polysaccharides (e.g. maltose or glucose) are added to a culture solution of the Xanthomonas.maltophilia No.34 strain and an acetate and propionate are preferably further added to dry the resultant mixture. Thereby, a formulation for preventing or controlling the anthracnose of strawberries can be produced.
