PURPOSE:To prepare a thermoplastic resin excellent in the resistance to heat and impact by emulsion graft polymerizing a mixture of styrene, acrylonitrile, alpha-methylstyrene, etc., in a specified mixing ratio using a specific polymn. initiator in the presence of fine particles of a rubber like substance. CONSTITUTION:5-30wt.% styrene, 20-40wt.% acrylonitrile, 10-60wt.% alpha- methylstyrene, and 0-30wt.% monomer copolymerizable with the foregoing monomers (e.g. ethyl acrylate) are mixed to give a monomer mixture. 80-20 pts.wt. said mixture is emulsion graft polymerized in the presence of a latex contg. 20-80 pts.wt. rubberlike substance (e.g. butadiene rubber) and having a number-average particle diameter of 0.2-1mum using an aliph. hydroperoxide (e.g. t-butyl hydroperoxide) and a redox system auxiliary additive as polymn. initiators to produce a thermoplastic resin.
