The invention relates to a piece metering device for a sawn product, which metering device is designed to meter variously sized sawn product pieces 4 which are fed as a single-layer batch 2 to a mass conveyor or the like 6. The piece metering device comprises a conveyor 1, which transports the batch 2, a metering member, a stationary stopper 3 and a mass conveyor or the like 6. The metering member is arranged to displace the sawn product pieces 4 in the batch 2 one by one over the stationary stopper 3. For the metering of sawn product pieces of various widths, the metering member 5 comprises at least two groups of metering cams 7, 8, the motional paths of which are different from each other and the motions of which are linked in a predetermined manner. The groups of metering cams 7, 8 are arranged to displace the sawn product piece 4 over the stopper 3, depending on the width of the sawn product piece, either by the use of one displacement motion or by the use of a displacement motion which is continuous in a plurality of successive phases, so that the motion of the sawn product piece 4 is continuous throughout the displacement motion.
