The abdominopelvic cavity simulator for training in surgery is a parallelepiped which is open at the rear and on the upper face; in the centre of the upper face is a space for masks of different diameters to be placed in order to simulate different apertures of the operating field and to fit animal and other tissues for training in opening and closing the abdominal wall. Inside the simulator there may be placed at different levels (simulating the depth of field) and according to the type of training to be carried out; a) a surface ("base") where the animal tissues and organs can be placed for training; b) a trainer for practising free-hand surgical knots (Face "A") or after the passage of the needle and thread with a needle holder and pincers (Face "B"); c) a trainer for practising surgical sutures in all directions and at all depths of the operating field. The simulator complete with trainers can be regarded as a teaching apparatus for reproducing the spatial conditions of the operating field for training in the manual skills, basic techniques and specific surgical techniques of abdominopelvic, gynaecological and general surgery.
