The device described comprises a light source arranged, for example, in the line of fire of the firearm, a release unit coupled with the trigger of said firearm (12) which switches on the focused light source for a given time-interval, for example, when the cock strikes the igniter, as well as a target system (16) which detects the impact of the light beam on the target within a given time-interval co-ordinated with the moment of release of the trigger and supplies a signal to an evaluation and display unit (34, 30) for evaluating and/or displaying the impacts. The system which switches on the focused light source also actuates a system (11, 13) for emitting acoustic pulses, such as the explosion of blank cartridges, in such a manner that a light signal (24) and an acoustic signal (49) appear virtually simultaneously when the trigger (9) of the firearm is pressed.
