In order to substantially avoid ejections of slag in slag practice in a blown steel converter (1) having a blowing lance (2), whose distance (a) from the bath surface (17) is controlled as a function of the sound level of the blowing noise measured through the slag at selected frequencies, the actual values of the sound level measured at the individual frequencies are combined to form a resulting characteristic value, the difference between this resulting characteristic value and a preset comparison value, which fixes a probable ejection on the basis of the sound level which can be allocated thereto, being determined and compared as a measure of an ejection probability with at least one preset probability limit, a correction of the blowing lance distance (a) or of the oxygen feed rate being made when the limit is exceeded. …IMAGE…
