A first lumen (160) is moved and illuminated by an xy plotter mechanism on a screen (120) of rear projection under computer control (400), so as to be set continuously by an eye of a subject test (300). The computer (400) and causes the momentary illumination of one or more second slots (150) in fixed position, typically sixteen positioned by number in a regular array at various times corresponding to different positions of the first movable light. The test subject (300) indicates the detection or non-detection of the momentary illuminations to the computer (400) by uttering the numbers' 1 '', '' 2 '' '' 3 '', etc. From successive illuminations and test subject responses (300), the computer (400) is capable of inspecting the entire visual field of each eye of the subject in all directions. The inspected field is plotted on graph paper with the same xy plotter mechanism is used otherwise and at other times to move the first light source (160).
