The monitoring system is used for continuous measurement of the temp. of an electrically conductive metal smelt and for discrete measurement of the fire-resistant cladding of the smelting oven, with the temp. measurements obtained simultaneously at several points. The temp. measurements are obtained along 2 accurately defined cross sections of a heat conductive body incorporated in the cladding via thermoelectric sensors lying in each cross section. The cladding thickness measurements are obtained via an electrically conductive body, for closure of a sequence of normally open contacts upon respective wear levels being reached. The output signals from the temp. measuring system are converted into digital signal for subsequent evaluation and those from the thickness measuring device are processed via a logic analyser.
