The material to be de-watered passes downwards through a tapering vessel, the lower part of which is closed by two filter surfaces outside which are two pressure chambers, and the upper part of which is closed at the sides by solid plates and at the top by a third filter surface and pressure chamber. The three pressure chambers are pressurised one at a time in rotation to clean the filtration surfaces. The pressurisation of the upper pressure chamber serves to press the liq. out of the material into the side pressure chambers and to move to the pressure chambers is controlled by an automatic system, and may use pressurised air, water or filtrate. USE/ADVANTAGE - This method is used for de-watering muds and sludges. Its capital cost is less than other available systems, it operates without maintenance and provides a favourable relationship between operating costs and output, and it can operate in covered areas as well as in the open.
