In a novel flocculation-filtration process, the flocculant is added to the suspension as a prepared material with a flake or honeycomb structure, and the resulting combination is mechanically mixed so that the particles in the suspension become attached to the flocculant material. A long-chain polymer (poly-electrolyte) is added to the flocculated and precipitated solid material before it is conveyed to the filter press for drying. The solid material may be given a post-treatment in a vessel to which an oxidation or reduction agent and/or a long-chain tenside is added. USE/ADVANTAGE - This invention is used in the separation of colloidal suspensions, such as especially sewage sludge, mixtures of water and clay, dredger mud, industrial sludges etc., whose disposal is problematic due to the presence of dangerous components. An efficient separation is provided so that the suspended particles can be separated and dried and can be disposed of separately from the remaining liquid and in a safe manner.
