Telescopic cover for machine tool slideways - is fabricated from two sheet metal parts requiring only simple cutting and bending operations

The cover is made up of several segments which can slide over each other. A cover segment is fabricated from two sheet metal parts (30,31). The endwall part (30) is blanked or cut out of flat sheet and has lugs which pass through matching slots in the sidewalls (32,33) of part (31). Part (31) forms the top and sidewalls of the cover segment and is first blanked or cut out of flat sheet and then bent to form the walls and end flanges (40,41). The two parts are assembled and spot welded. The lugs, which project through the sidewalls by a distance f, engage with the next segment. USE/ADVANTAGE - Low cost design can be manufactured using only simple cutting, bending and spot welding operations.
