Quaternised 1,1-dicycloalkyl-4-amino -2-butyn-1-ols of formula (I) are new. R1, R2 = cyclohexyl or cyclopentyl substd by 1 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C hydroxyalkyl or 1-4C haloalkyl gps. R3, R4 = 1-6C alkyl, or together form a 5-7 membered ring, which may contain extra 0 or S heteroatoms or be substd by 1-4C alkyl. R5 = CH3 or CH2CH3. X' an anion. Also claimed is a method for preparing (I) from a ketone of formula R1C0R2 and a cpd of formula M-CC-CH2-NR3R4, where M is a reactive metal. The resulting intermediate is hydrolysed and reacted with a cpd of formula R5X. (I) is eg 1,1-dicyclohexyl-4-piperidino -2-butyn-1-ol-methoiodide.
