This invention relates to optical communication systems. BR/ It refers to a method of suppressing the interaction of solitons in a fiber optic communications system. The signal to be transmitted is modulated in intensity, at a first wavelength which is greater than the minimum dispersion wavelength of the fiber. This signal is launched simultaneously with a signal formed of dark pulses having the same format, but a wavelength less than the minimum dispersion wavelength of the fiber.
