Process and plant comprises dust filtration, pressure recovery turbine with generator and bypass flow with gas compressor, combustion chamber with fuel enrichment, gas turbine generator and heat exchanger. Pref. blast furnace gas is passed via fine and/or coarse dust filtration (10) and, if necessary, droplet separator (27) to expansion (pressure recovery) turbine (12) coupled with power generator (11) and to gas line (13) for further utilisation. A proportion of gas (3 to15%, pref ca 5%) is bypassed via separator (27) and fine dust filter (28), if required, to compressor (16) and combustion chamber (17) with enrichment (22) by high calorific fuel e.g. natural or coke gas and to gas turbine (18). The gas turbine (18) may be coupled to its own generator (19) or to the expansion turbine generator (11) via clutch (26). Gas turbine (18) exhaust passes through heat exchanger (24) to raise the inlet gas temp. for expansion turbine (12). Two system variants are also covered. USE/ADVANTAGE - Energy recovery by conversion of pressure and thermal energy from blast furnace gas to electrical energy. High energy recovery, favourable investment payback, no adverse effect on furnace pressure regulation.
