PURPOSE: To provide a baring apparatus for a doctor journal that permits axial, rotational and angular movements of a doctor journal of a papermaking machine. CONSTITUTION: This bearing apparatus comprises a housing 20A which defines a cylindrical bore 34 for the reception therein of a doctor journal 26. An annular bearing ring 36 defines an inner 38 and an outer surfaces 40 with the outer surface 40 being cylindrical and having a diameter slightly less than the diameter of the bore 34 such that, when the ring 36 is disposed within the bore, axial sliding of the bearing ring 36 within the bore 34 is permitted. A sleeve 42 is disposed within the bearing ring 36 with the sleeve 42 defining an internal channel 44 for supporting the doctor journal 26. The sleeve 42 also defines an external face 46 which closely conforms to the inner surface 38 of the bearing ring 36 such that angular movement of the sleeve within the bearing ring is permitted, while axial movement of the sleeve 42 relatively to the bearing ring 36 is inhibited.
