The traffic lanes for each direction of travel consist of subterranean railways running in shallow tunnels that are realized with precast, tubular units and that are provided with chain haulage. The haulage chain is made up of articulated rigid units; it is started by working units that are located along the lane and supported by the very vehicles. Destination stations are distinguished from a departure stations, and each station is located on an off-line lane that is laterally deviated from the tunnel and that reaches pavement level through steeps. Vehicles naturally accelerate or decelerate on the steeps due to gravitation force, since in order to reach or leave a station each vehicle can be connected to replacement bogies designed to travel on two tracks, both situated under the off-line lane in both travel directions.In alternative to working units with gripping wheels, haulage can also be realized with linear, asyncronous motors with the stator fixed to the lane and adequately distributed along the route; said stator is plate induced and is carried both by the vehicles and by the chain.Instead of replacement bogies the vehicles in the station can be easily provided with variable motion with an electrodynamic control system.
