RD-19682CONE BEAM SCANNING TRAJECTORIES FORTHREE-DIMENSIONAL COMPUTERIZED TOMOGRAPHYDATA ACQUISITION WHERE OBJECT IS LARGERTHAN THE FIELD OF VIEWAbstract of the DisclosureA configuration for three-dimensional cone beamcomputerized tomography imaging which minimizes the incom-pleteness of the data set and, at the same time, avoids cor-rupted data and resulting artifacts when only a portion of anobject is imaged, the object being of greater axial extentcompared to a cylindrical field of view. At least two circu-lar source scanning trajectories are defined centered on arotation axis and lying respectively in two endplanes defin-ing the axial extent of the field of view. At least one conebeam x-ray source and at least one corresponding two-dimen-sional array detector are employed to scan the object alongthe source scanning trajectories, while acquiring cone beamprojection data only from rays passing through the field ofview. Preferably, at least one additional circular sourcescanning trajectory is defined, centered on the rotation axisand lying in a plane intermediate the two endplanes.
