Duplex stainless steel having a composition (wt.%) C 0.001-0.08, Mn 0.001-2.00, Si 0.001-1.5, Cr 20-27.5, Ni 8.0-11.0, Me 3.0-4.5, S 0.0001-0.05, P 0.0001-0.05, N 0.1-0.3, balance iron, in solution treated at 2050-2350 deg. F and quenched. The ratio of Cr equivelants:Ni equivelants is between 3.5 and 4.0, Cr equivelants = 1.5 (Cr + Si + Mo) and Ni equivelants = (Ni + 0.3 Mn + Cu + 22C + 5N).
