The measurement of the monochromatic optical power transported in an optical light conductor in opposite directions at a defined point and the derivation of their quotient, involves the use of an optical coupler (R), an optical wavelength and power measurement device (M1), a further power measurement device (M2) and a control and evaluation unit (M3). The wavelength dependent transmission coefficient of the direction coupler is measured and stored, and the couple is inserted at the defined point. The measured values and the stored characteristic are used to determine the required parameters. ADVANTAGE - Enables measurement of powers simultaneously propagating in opposite directions.
