In prod. of very pure H2 at high outlet pressure, using molecular sieves in pressure-change adsorbers (DWA) in synthesis gas plant with integrated high-pressure synthesis, high-pressure molecular sieves are used in the DWA at entry pressure of 100-200 (150-1200) bars. Crude synthesis gas is pref. obtd. by thermal splitting of raw materials contg. hydrocarbons, e.g. crude oil, light or heavy heating oil, residue oils, tar oils, heavy or light gasoline, liq. gas, refinery gas or natural gas, with O2 or O2-enriched air and in presence of steam, in an auto-thermal non-catalytic reaction followed by a H2S wash with cold methanol, washing the liq. N2, and compression to 100-220 (150-200) bars by a turbo-compressor driven by high-pressure steam. USE/ADVANTAGE - Process is flexible and energy-saving, either for high-pressure synthesis in combination with a synthesis gas producer or for supply to a customer. Process may be integrated with an NH3 or methanol synthesis or with a hydrocracking plant.
