A controller (16) operates four injectors (14) into the intakes (11) of individual cylinders, and an additional injector (13) into the manifold (10) between the throttle flap (12) and the branching point. All injectors (14,13) are supplied from a common source (15) and adjusted in response to signals (L) from a throttle flap position sensor (17). The additional injector (13) is activated when demand from the individual cylinder injectors (14) exceeds their capacity. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for engines burning fuels with widely different calorific values, e.g. pure petrol and methanol. Switching times are shortened and more precise metering is possible at low loads and speeds.
