Method of sepg. floating and sinking impurities from waste water - using conical inlet duct to slow down flow and allow thermal and gravitational sepn. to take place before water enters main spiral sedimentation channel
A horizontal sepn. channel, in which the flow velocity is continuously reduced, is provided upstream of the main sedimentation channel of a device for treating waste water from food processing operations. In this sepn. channel, the warm water and floating impurities move upwards while the colder water and heavier impurities move downwards, and these layers of the water flow are guided into the corresp. regions of the main sedimentation channel. The sepn. channel is in the form of a conical pipe section (11), the cone angle for the colder lower flow layer being greater than that for the warmer upper flow layer. These layers may be sepd. from each other by guide vanes. The sedimentation channel takes the form of a body of water which rotates slowly about a vertical axis and into which the water flows tangentially at mid-height and at an equal velocity. The flow velocity in this channel is adjusted so that sufficient time is provided for the warm water to rise to the upper surface and the colder water to fall to the lower surface. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for sepg. floating and sinking impurities from waste water from food processing or prepn. operations. The degree of sepn. of both floating and sinking impurities is greatly improved without the need for additional equipment.
