Synergistic herbicidal compsns. (A) contg. (a) benfuresate and (b) MCPA, bifenox, bensulide, thiobencarb, quinclorac, piperophos, MCPB, simetryn or molinate are new. Pref., the wt. ratio (a):(b) is 1:10-10:1. USE/ADVANTAGE - (A) have high activity and are used for the selective control of monocot and dicot weeds in crops, esp. rice. The use of (A) substantially reduces the cost of weed control compared with the use of (a) and (b) alone. Pref. the compsn. is used in amt. of 0.001-5 kg/ha, pref. by post-emergence treatment. In an example, control of Echinochloa crus-galli by a combination of (a) (300 g/ha) and MCPA (b) (62.5 g/ha) was 100% compared with 58% expected according to the Colby formula, 40% for (a) alone (300 g/ha) and 30% for MCPA alone (62.5 g/ha). Similar improvements were seen using combinations of (a) and different components (b) against the same weed and against Sagittaria pygmaea and Cyperus serotinus
