Operating table for large animals - has restraints for animal's extremities supported on adjustable arms mounted on rails below narrow ends of table

A new operating table (20) for large animals is characterised by having a rail (30) under one of its edges. A mounting block (32) can be attached to this rail at any point, and carries a support (34) which extends across the table and is fitted with a restraint (36) for one of the limbs of the animal. The length of the support (34) is adjustable, and the support may be in the form of a spring-loaded piston/cylinder unit or a screwed spindle. The support (34) may further have a section (66) extending parallel to the length of the table, in the form of a rail connected at right angles to a lower tubular section (64) and to which a second mounting block (68) can be fixed. The restraint (36) can be locked in any required rotational position relative to the support (34). The restraint contains a support plate and a block of foam (56) with open passages (58). The main rail (30) has a C-shaped profile and the mounting block (32) has a projection (44) which fits into this profile, and a bearing plate (46) which rests against the outside of the rail. The support (34) is located at a distance of 0.5 to 5cm from the narrow side of the table, and the rail (30) is 2 to 5cm below the lower surface of the table. The table is covered by a layer (26) of thermally-weldable polyurethane 2 to 8mm thick. This layer extends over the edges of the table. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in verterinary clinics where surgical procedures on large animals are performed. Supports for the limbs of the animals are provided without the need for any penetrations in the surface of the table, and the limbs are gripped securely but gently and can be held at any desired location.
