The speed of each wheel is measured and processed for each axle to compute a slew value. If the difference in the slew vaues for the two axles exceeds a preset level, instability is detected. Non-slew cornering occurs when each point of the vehicle has a similar moment about the cornering centre. The method uses the existing wheel-speed sensors of the ABS braking control and the wheel-spin control. No transverse movement detectors are required. The control system uses some of the logic of the ABS/ wheel-spin control. ADVANTAGE - No complex sensors required.
