In a new method for using solar energy to produce domestic hot water, the solar collector is connected directly to the hot water supply system. A thermostat in the collector switches the supply pump on, and a thermostat in the pump inlet pipe switches it off. A system for protection against freezing switches the pump on when the temperature falls below a predetermined value. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in solar-powered domestic hot water systems. The proposed system is simpler than indirect water heating systems (two separate storage tanks are not required), and uses only the hot water storage tank already present in most households. Can be easily and inexpensively integrated into existing hot water systems.
