Sealing rings for rotating shafts in which the angle (L) section PTFE or similar seal ring (16) has an axial securing leg (20) surrounded on at least its outer circumference and one face by a metallic housing (17, 18). The surface(s) of the housing (17, 18) touching the axial seal ring leg (20) carries at least one circumferential groove (19). USE/ADVANTAGE - Shaft seals esp. with high temp. aggressive fluids and high friction loading, with extended working life. Avoids slackness and leakage of the static seal between the PTFE seal ring and metallic housing due to poor surface adhesion and plastic flow (creep) of the PTFE, esp. under the above conditions and prolonged use, compared with existing press-fitting or clamping between metal rings.
