Monoclonal antibody specific for delta-bilirubin - useful in immunoassay(s) to detect delta-bilirubin, indicator of liver transplant rejection

Claimed are (a) a monoclonal antibody (Mab) or one of its fragments having an antigenic binding site specific for delta-bilirubin (Bd), (b) an analysis kit for the quantitation of Bd in a biological sample and (c) the hybridoma cell line producing Mab's specific to Bd. The Mab is against (i) the particular conformation of Bd or (ii) the covalent binding between bilirubin and albumin which is specific for Bd. The Mab is used in an immunoassay for the detection and quantitation of Bd in a biological sample. USE/ADVANTAGE - The Mab allows a more effective detection and quantitation of authentic Bd. Bd is important for the diagnosis of liver and gall diseases. It may be used e.g. as an early indicator for liver transplant rejection and as indicator for the regression of jaundice.
