The patient (M) is placed between an X-ray source (1) and a fluorescent screen (4), which is excited by a scanning laser beam. The resulting signal from a photomultiplier (10) is fed via a voltage transformer (11) and an amplifier (12) to an analogue-digital converter (13). The digital image data is read into a line buffer in the image processing unit (14). The image can be analysed for high-special-frequency contents before processing algorithms are selected. Processing may include contrast enhancement, unsharp masking, and selected interpolation processes for image scaling. ADVANTAGE - Produces good image in selected region in short processing time.
