In a skill-with-prizes machine, the questions available to pose to a player are a relatively small subset of a much larger number of questions in the machine's memory unit. The active subset of questions changes during the working life of the machine. A large proportion of the questions in the new active subset are common to the preceding subset with a relatively small number of new questions. The change in subset may occur as a result of a predetermined event, such as a given time, number of games or the value of prizes awarded. In this manner the commercial viability of a machine is maintained, whilst still rewarding the skill and knowledge of a regular user.
